Legal Aid - PDLA Providers

Closed 10 Dec 2020

Opened 3 Dec 2020

Overview

Over the last few months Legal Aid Services have received several complaints from Police regarding providers being uncontactable for Police Detention Legal Assistance (PDLA).

Legal Aid Services are looking at how the administration of the system can be improved in the long term and this work will get underway early 2021.

In the meantime, it’s important that we ensure timely access to justice throughout the holiday period and so we are proposing to trial a new rostering proposal during this time. This will also inform how we move forward in the new year.

Subject to your views and the potential uptake of your proposal we will look to implement the proposed roster beginning Friday 18 December. If the proposed change is not accepted the status quo will apply.

The purpose of this survey is to obtain your views on the proposed change and subject to this change, whether this would encourage you to be more available throughout this period.

We will advise you the outcome of the survey in advance.
